What Is Covered Under Your Preventative Care Langhorne PA Visit

By Helen Wright

Preventive visit is usually confused for the wellness visit when people want to understand Medicare plans. Though the two words are used interchangeably, their meanings are different. The clinic that offers preventative care Langhorne PA has the responsibility of performing Initial Preventive Physical Examination or IPPE. This examination is also commonly known as Welcome to Medicare Visit. It happens once in the life of your cover and must be within the first 12 months of Medicare Part B enrollment.

This initial visit is meant to assess your safety levels and functional ability. You will also be discussing the end-of-life plan with your physician and making necessary adjustments. The physician, depending on results of findings obtained will refer you to a specialist, counsel you or educate you on important issues regarding your health.

Body metrics of height, body mass index and weight will also be measured. The physician takes your blood pressure and other factors that he or she thinks are important in determining your health status. Your family and medical history will be reviewed. You should have an idea of conditions that have affected your children, parents, and people in your bloodline. This review enables the doctor to determine your vulnerability or level of risk.

Mental health evaluation is also carried out during this visit. The physician seeks to determine whether you have been a victim of depression and any disposal factors that could raise alarm. Mitigating steps can be taken as soon as possible. Visual acuity screening and social history review are also conducted. Your risk factors will be determined by your family history, gender and age. Some tests or further screening may be ordered as a result.

This initial visit is always covered under the Medicare scheme. Under physical examination, any screening tests that are gender based will be paid for. Medication provided based on the results of these tests will also be covered under the plan. The screening must be focused on preventing deterioration of the condition other than treating it. Diagnosis that needs addressing and new conditions discussed will not be covered.

Immunization is also covered under the program. Some of the immunization conditions covered include MMR or Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Hepatitis A and B as well as flu. Further screening or treatment procedures can only be covered if their target is to prevent deterioration of the condition. Travel immunization is never covered. This includes such conditions as rabies, Malaria and typhoid.

The screening or tests to be conducted will be informed by your gender, age and general health upon evaluation. For women over 40, mammography screening is free. Colorectal cancer screening is also covered for all adults over 50 years. Screening for blood pressure is also done free of charge and cholesterol screening if you are at the designated risk age. Follow-up screening is not covered under the initial visit.

Though you take this preventive visit, you are required to attend an exam every year to determine your level of wellness. This visit is aimed at assessing progress of certain situations and advising on the best approach. It helps you arrest a situation early before it escalates. It is through reviews and monitoring that you maintain optimal health.
