The most popular cure for this is known as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). In CPAP, the person wears a mask which is connected to a machine. The job of the machine is to supply air continuously as the person sleeps. This can eliminate breathing disorder since the direct supply of air is provided and the person does less work in breathing.

Unfortunately, some people cannot fall asleep with the mask on. This is why another strategy has to be used on them. The positional therapy is quite simple and works on the theory that sleeping in a supine position can cause a cessation in breathing. Thus, the person affected wears a device to make sure he is kept on his side while sleeping.

Not taking alcohol or cigarette is another useful technique. Alcohol is bad for sleep apnea because it can relax the muscles of the throat and when this happens, snoring is bound to happen. The same effect happens when smoking a cigarette because of the nicotine content. Apart from nicotine, cigarette smoke causes the inflammation of the upper airways.

Apart from the cigarette, smoke from anywhere can cause sleep apnea. This means that people whose vocation exposes them to smoke have got to do a lot of wearing of nose masks and shielding the smoke that comes from their furnace. Such people include caterers and firefighters.

Exercising at the same time makes the procedure work faster because exercises also help to prevent obesity. If antioxidant supplements are administered the right way, sleep apnea can be solved. The reason why antioxidants will work is that the disorder is caused by oxidative stress. This means the accumulation of free radicals and reduced levels of antioxidants in the blood. The more the oxidative stress, the less the ability of the blood vessels to contract and relax. This is what is referred to as endothelial dysfunction, which is a major cause of sleep apnea. Antioxidant supplements that can be used include vitamin E and beta-carotene.

Giving patients some vitamin D helps to reduce this problem too. Tests conducted on those suffering from sleep apnea revealed the lack of this vitamin. Vitamin D is useful here because of its role in insulin regulation and inflammation that results from insulin resistance.
