What You Need To Know About Northwest Indiana Liposuction

By Kathleen Snyder

Liposuction is a technique which slims and reshapes certain body parts by removing the excess fat thereby improving body contours and proportion. This technique can be used in reducing the localized deposits of fats in different parts of the body such as abdomen, thighs, waist, back, upper arms, as well as buttocks and hips. Other areas where the procedure can be used to remove the excess fat are such as the neck, chest area, chin, and cheeks. In northwest Indiana liposuction, this technique can either be used with other cosmetic surgeries or alone.

This procedure entails the removal of fats by suction. Thin, small, bunt-tipped cannulas are inserted in the body of a patient after tiny incisions are made on the skin. The physician then suctions the fats using tubes below the skin. With the advancements in technology, better techniques have eased the procedures making them safe and less painful.

Different techniques can be used to perform liposuction. One such technique is the tumescent liposuction. In this technique, areas where the tube is inserted is numbed using a local anesthetic. More anesthetic solution is then injected into the fatty tissue prior to the procedure. The anesthetic solution contains lidocaine and epinephrine. With this technique, a general anesthetic might not be required.

Other techniques applied include the laser-aided liposuction as well as ultrasounds. Under the ultrasound techniques, fats are liquefied to enhance easy removal. The technique is generally ideal for the removal of fats from the back, upper abdomen, and sides. Under the laser-aided technique, waves at low energies are used in liquefying the fats before a tiny cannula is inserted to take away the fat. This procedure is done under outpatient and has no need for admission into the wards overnight apart from when large quantities of fat are withdrawn. Where large fat volumes are removed, the physician can apply general anesthesia or some deep sedation combined with local anesthesia.

After the procedure is finished, the area where the fat has been removed is wrapped to avoid bruising, pain and swelling. Your doctor can use elastic tape and bandages, special girdle or a support hose together with firm-filling garments. The patient may also remain with the wrap for 3-4 weeks. Bruising and swelling might also be experienced for about 7-10 days after undergoing the procedure.

In most cases, patients are able to get up as well as move around soon after the treatment is over, and the effects of sedative and anesthetic have worn off. A patient can also resume normal activities as long as he or she is comfortable, but this may take several days. The recovery process can take longer, especially if large areas were involved.

Usually, the purpose of this procedure is to reshape specific areas and not to reduce the weight of your body. It is mostly used in specific areas that have not responded to exercise and diet.

This procedure has been effective in reducing body fat in small areas. After the procedure, improvements in body contours can be noted. Nevertheless, if you regain the weight, the fatty bulges can return.
